For first time parents, it can seem overwhelming to baby proof your home. It’s somewhat hard to imagine what your baby can get into, often until it’s already happened. So, within this site you’ll find some safety basics on how to make your home infant safe quickly. It’s wise to complete your baby proofing before your baby begins to scoot around on his own.

Secure all tall and/or heavy furniture, like bookshelves and chests, to the wall, so that baby can’t pull them down on top of him.

Take a look at your crib. When baby starts to pull up to a standing position; he may be tempted to assert his independence by trying to climb out. Make sure that the mattress is lowered to the lowest position once baby has started to show signs of being ready to crawl.

Take A Look At Your Kitchen and Bathrooms

Your kitchen and bathrooms are some of the most dangerous rooms in your home. The cleaning agents and chemicals that are stored in your kitchen and bathroom cabinets can be lethal. There are many simple gadgets that can be used to keep baby out of cabinets. Install Latches inside the cabinets that require the "opener" to press a tab or flexible shaft in order to open the cabinets.

However, one of the most ingenious cabinet safety systems is magnetic. You simply install a magnetic locking device inside each cabinet door. This device keeps the door shut until a second magnet (which you keep out of baby’s reach) is aligned with the inside magnet. You move the portable magnet along the outside of the cabinet door until it clicks with the inside magnet. Then the door is easily opened.

Don’t Forget the Outlets

Babies are naturally curious. Once your little one starts to crawl around, she’ll be anxious to touch everything within her reach. This includes electrical outlets, which can provide a dangerous and painful shock. There are several different types of safety outlet covers available. The "slide-by" style or box type outlet covers are the best designs. The simple plastic inserts that plug into the outlets can be fairly easy for baby's little fingers to remove, and are small enough that baby could choke if the insert is placed in her mouth.

These simple steps can be performed quickly and will help you to baby proof your home.
