Since 1986, Thom has provided child safety education throughout the major media, is a specialist in child safety product installation in the home, and is widely renowned as a leading authority on pediatric trauma prevention. Realizing that he would rather help prevent childhood trauma and injuries before they could occur, Thom began to research, develop, and test child safety products that he knew would be essential to this process. And so, "Dr. Baby Proofer" was born.

Thom was determined to create a new educational field where he would research, test and sell only the best quality child safety products to parents and other caregivers who were eager to create a safer environment for their kids. Just as important, he and his specially trained staff would provide the education in how to use and install these products.

Little did he know that he would become an early pioneer in the brand new field of Child Safety. Thom subsequently began to conduct in-home evaluations for parents to help determine the needs of each individual home environment. He now educates much larger groups as well, in what he terms "preventative education" seminars for new and expectant parents, speaking at hospitals, medical schools, and parent organizations, as well as to the community through television and radio.

Today, as a training specialist, Thom also teaches others from around the country how to become "babyproofers", thus creating child safety specialists across the US. As the Founder of the International Association for Child Safety (IAFCS) in 1996, Thom has been called upon as a nationally renowned child safety expert by publications such as "Better Homes and Gardens" magazine, "Southern Living," "NurseWeek," "Independent Business," "The Mommy Guide," "Dallas Child," "Dallas Family Values," "The Dallas Morning News," "The Ft.Worth Star-Telegram," and others. He is a regular contributor on KRLD newsradio 1080, as well as a featured expert on TXCN Cable News, CNN, the local ABC affiliate, and the Fox network.
